Ottershaw Bellringing

Listen to Ottershaw bells

This is a recording taken from a CD of bells in the Guildford Diocese. The CD can be obtained from

Bellringing is an ancient English art that still plays an important role in church life today. The present method of change-ringing began in England in the 17th Century. The bells are hung so that they can be swung through a full 360 degrees to be struck individually in sequence, rather than randomly as on the continent. For ringers bellringing is a challenge to master both the physical handling of the bell and also the mental challenge of learning the "music".
