Music at Christ Church

"For he who sings praise, does not only praise, but also praises joyfully; he who sings praise, not only sings, but also loves Him whom he is singing about. There is praise-filled public proclamation in the praise of some who is acknowledging God, and in the song of the lover there is love." (St Augustine of Hippo)

Music is believed to be the most powerful of the arts and can be experienced and appreciated through the differing activities of listening, singing, the playing of musical instruments and of composition. Singing is the most natural form of music making and as well as providing uplifting experiences it can also be immensely healing. Music is vital to us as human beings as it enables us to reach up to God at a much deeper level.

At Christ Church we are fortunate to have two music groups, the Choir and the Music Group to lead congregational singing.

The Choir sings for five Sunday morning services each month, for an occasional Choral Evensong, for weekday services such as Ash Wednesday and Good Friday and for most weddings and the occasional funeral. In addition to rehearsing congregational items for worship, the members prepare and learn specially selected music to sing at special occasions such as the Service of Readings and Music at Christmas, all of which they find very satisfying. In order for this small group to learn choral music of a more demanding nature than at present, it is hoped that additional singers (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) would seriously consider joining them. The Choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music.

The Music Group leads the worship at two morning services each month, and the occasional evening service. A practice is held on the fourth Thursday of each month, at 7pm in the Church, and any singers or instrumentalists are welcome to come and practice music for the service and learn songs together.

We always welcome new members to help lead our services and draw us closer in worship to God. If you sing, or play an instrument, please contact Pam Brush on 01932 872560 (Choir) or Adam Creen on 01483 757648 (Music Group)
